Today we are going to be talking with Mya Strutz about her thrifting business called Thrifted by Mya. Mya purchases clothing from other thrift stores, cleans them up, and then sells them on her Instagram profile Thrifted by Mya. For prices Mya states “I try to price my clothes pretty reasonably. I take into account what I paid for it and then just charge a couple more dollars.” For Mya she turned something she really enjoyed which is thrifting and she turned it into a business. She also says “It always feels like a treasure hunt.” She enjoys finding nice clothes that people will like and enjoy.
Thrifting has many benefits, some being environmentally friendly, affordable, you can make the items your own, it can help businesses, unique pieces, and many others. “The 1960s and 1970s saw a surge in thrifting’s popularity…”(Support O), and thrifting has gotten popular again in the 21st century though this time it is very intertwined with social media and the internet. When thrifting you can buy an assortment of things not just clothing, you could get shoes, jewelry, furniture, books, home decor, kitchen appliances, toys or games, essentially anything. Thrifting is also good for the environment as it leads to reuse of things so they don’t go straight to the landfills.
